From the 1996 movie Jerry
Maguire:
“When
you get on the field, it's all about what you didn't get, who's to blame, who
underthrew the pass, who's got the contracts you don't, who's not giving you
love. That is not what inspires people. That is not what inspires people! Shut
up, play the game... play it from the heart. And I will show you Quan!”
Our Dream:
We at Quote EndQuote share a special dream: to foster a sustainable environment where Canadian corporations and ALL their customers and stakeholders can enjoy nurturing business and social relationships based upon mutual trust, respect and understanding.
Our Team:
Quote EndQuote’s team is a culturally-diverse pool of people who not only share the same social vision but possess excellent academic and professional credentials spanning (though not limited to) business management, marketing, and advertising. We customize teams to suit our clients’ requirements based upon the desired industry-specific and needs-specific experience as well as the need for specific cultural insights. We don't believe in any standard procedures or practices for success. Rather, strategies evolve with every new challenge (...and we love challenges) which a client presents to us based upon the needs and desires of their ethnic consumers. Our client support does not stop there. We go those extra 2.2 kilometres by offering to our clients the expertise of our panel of cultural advisors -- people from all walks of life -- consumers, old and new, each bringing to the table their valuable insights and feedback.
Our Vision: Commitment to Building Social Capital
We take our roles as corporate citizens seriously. We work hand in hand with society at large striving to promote communication between the “visible minority” markets we serve and the corporations that serve them -- thereby advancing the promotion of social capital. As Canadian citizens, together we can aim to share in and coexist with each other. Towards this goal, we volunteer time and resources to engage in a variety of social welfare initiatives including awareness of racially discriminatory marketing, social and employment practices, youth violence, gang awareness and prevention, violence/discrimination within visible minority groups, and illiteracy in English or French. Below are some of the ongoing initiatives which we are engaged in as part of our mandate to build social capital:
Canadian Work Experience Initiative
Statistics Canada report that visible minorities have not enjoyed the same employment opportunities or income levels that non-visible minorities have. Newly immigrated visible minorities face even greater discriminatory employment challenges, even when language is not a barrier. To aid in this, Quote EndQuote offers unpaid internships. We provide the opportunity to learn Canadian business practices through on-the-job training, network with those in their industry and gain valuable “Canadian” experience. In return, we gain a set of “fresh eyes” and first-hand anecdotes relating to their past and present lifestyle. This helps us maintain an up-to-date barometer of Canada’s cultural, corporate and immigration welcome mat.
Youth Violence Awareness
Working in conjunction with our clients and select local non-profit associations, Quote EndQuote is spearheading the development of youth violence awareness and prevention initiatives aimed at Lower Mainland’s South Asian community.
Cultural Activities
Quote EndQuote continues to dedicate ethnic marketing expertise to mainstream events such as the 2008 TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The idea behind this was to demonstrate to newcomers that Canada could be fun and culturally rich too and that one way of being and feeling a part of the community was participating in the multifarious community/cultural activities which take place in our communities across Canada. Using an inclusive approach to marketing, we also wanted to show newcomers that they are welcome and respected in their host country. Quote EndQuote's support including inviting ethnic media to sponsor and attend the award-winning event and providing ‘in-language’ information to enable them to reach out to their target ethnic audience, using their respective native language and/or media. Our successful collaboration with ethnic media at the 2008 TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival proved that working together serves to support and ease the integration and comfort level of new immigrants.
Mentoring
We realize that while we continue to engage with and find new ways of building social capital, we can always help in other small albeit more invisible ways. The predominant North American-style of communication -- vocal variety, direct eye contact, body language, active listening in ESL – is often foreign to our new immigrants. As Vice President of Education, Fyrebyrdes Toastmasters Club, the president of Quote EndQuote, a visible minority herself, serves as an inspiration and mentor to new club members, who tend to be new immigrants hailing mostly from mainland China and the Philippines.
